Owls stung by Bees victory

Michael Turner's goal was enough to see Brentford beat Tranmere and it was good enough to see Martin Allen's men jump into fourth place just behind Rovers by overtaking Wednesday, who are now down to fifth.

The result at Griffin Park was enough to see Luton mathematically promoted but more importantly from a Wednesday perspective, it left The Owls only a slim two-point safety margin inside the play-offs.

The Bees also have a game in hand over all their rivals.

Steve MacLean's absence from the team has shown because Wednesday have only won once (against Blackpool) since he has been out with a foot injury.

It makes Friday's game at Hartlepool a must win, and with Paul Sturrock's men needing seven or eight points from their remaining four games to make sure of their place in the post-season - the game takes on extra significance with the Victoria Park side breathing down Wednesday's necks.

The final four games for Wednesday are as follows: Hartlepool United (at Victoria Park), Stockport County (at Hillsborough), Hull City (at the KC Stadium) and Bristol City (at Hillsborough).

Wednesday's rivals final games are as follows:

TRANMERE - Blackpool (h), Swindon Town (a), Port Vale (h) and MK Dons (a).

BRENTFORD - Bradford City (a), Wrexham (a), Huddersfield Town (h), Luton Town (a) and Hull City (h).

HARTLEPOOL - Wednesday (h), Doncaster (a), Walsall (h) and Bournemouth (a).

BOURNEMOUTH - Chesterfield (a), Peterborough (h), Bradford (a) and Hartlepool (h).
