Sheffield Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu scored on his full international debut on Friday night but his goal couldn't prevent his country from slipping to a narrow defeat.
Nuhiu scored early in the second half for Kosovo but Iceland has already scored twice by that stage and England's conquerors at Euro 2016 held on for a 2-1 win.
The tall Owls front man had previously represented Austria at youth levels but, having fled the war torn region as a youngster, Nuhiu will have no doubt felt great pride in wearing the colours of Kosovo for the first time.
Nuhiu, who has been with the Owls since 2013, has seen his first team opportunities limited this season with Wednesday now possessing a host of experienced strikers. He did make a late substitute appearance in the recent defeat to Reading and his international goal is likely to give him fresh energy and give Carlos Carvalhal something to think about in the closing stages of the season as the owls have struggled for goals of late despite their abundance of striking options.
