Sheffield Wednesday have today confirmed via their official website, www.swfc.co.uk that striker Paul Heffernan has left the club by mutual consent.
The former Doncaster Rovers front-man was brought to Hillsborough a year ago by then manager Alan Irvine on a free transfer but for whatever reason he never seemed to fit in at S6 and will now be looking to further his career elsewhere.
Despite impressing on the odd occasions that he was utilised as a substitute under Alan Irvine, Heffernan was rarely given the chance to show his worth in the starting eleven, regardless of the form of the other strikers in the squad. The situation didn’t really improve when new manager Gary Megson came in back in February as the Irishman’s style of play doesn’t appear to fit in with Megson’s approach.
Heffernan’s stint with the Owls saw him make just 3 league starts with a further 14 appearances from the bench, scoring 3 goals. He also made 6 appearances in cup competitions. Recent speculation has linked the 29-year-old with a move north of the border to SPL side Kilmarnock.
