Owls still in need of a striker

With the 2015/16 season little more than a week away, Sheffield Wednesday appear to be suffering from the same problem that they had last season.

Despite a creditable mid-table finish in 2014/15 Wednesday were among the lowest scoring teams in the Championship and they have continued to struggle to fin the net on a regular basis during their summer warm-up games.

5 games, the majority against lower-league or non-league opposition, have yielded just 6 goals with 2 of them coming in a 4-2 defeat at Scunthorpe.

New Chairman Dejphon Chansiri has appointed new coach Carlos Carvalhal with the promise of a more attacking, aggressive brand of football and although plenty of positive signings have been made, the final and possibly most important piece of the jigsaw remains a proven goal scorer.

The additions of Ross Wallace, Marco Matias, Alex Lopez and Lewis McGugan will provide more attacking intent but although the Owls are not short of attacking options with the likes of Atdhe Nuhiu, Stevie May, Sergiu Bus and Caolan Lavery they do lack a striker with a proven record at this level.
