Owls set to swoop for Armstrong

The former Newcastle, Stockport, Ipswich, Bradford and Middlesbrough hitman is reportedly in negotiations with Wednesday to tie up a deal before Christmas.

New blood is needed as well - Wednesday were shocking against Hull last night and with no disrespect to Chris Turner, the lads played like the former Owls custodian was still the manager at Hillsborough.

As per normal, The Owls let themselves down in front of a big crowd and when expectations were high and can have no excuses for their 4-2 defeat to a very ordinary-looking
Hull City team.

If Armstrong, 29, does sign, it will be a welcome move as Steve MacLean struggled with the aimless long balls played to him last night, Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu was taken off injured and Lee Peacock was well lacking in sharpness.

In other news, Chris Marsden will be out of action for three months because of an operation on his hamstring.

Marsden revealed exclusively to Footymad that he feared he could have been out for six months with the problem – we wish him a speedy recovery.

And Ola Tidman has had his contract paid up by Wednesday after Sturrock told him he was surplus to requirements – watch him end up at United with the rest of the last season’s team!
