Sheffield Wednesday’s assistant manager Rob Kelly and first team coach Billy Barr have left the club today as confirmed on the Owls official website, www.swfc.co.uk
The departures do not come as a surprise as the two men were part of the coaching set up created by former manager Alan Irvine upon his arrival at the club in January 2010. Kelly picked the Owls starting line-up in Irvine’s absence for last Saturday’s game against MK Dons but with things not going to plan on the pitch new manager Gary Megson stepped in and had his say at half-time.
Megson will no doubt have his own ideas and is now expected to bring in his preferred backroom staff. It has been suggested that Megson was recently offered a managerial position at Championship side Ipswich Town but the fact that he wanted to overhaul the backroom set up at the club was said to have been a major stumbling block.
Megson takes charge of his first full Owls game at Rochdale on Saturday and with Wednesday needing to hit the ground running under his leadership if they are to have any chance of promotion it may not be long before new names are added to the coaching staff at Hillsborough.
