Sheffield Wednesday will travel to Manchester City in high spirits on Sunday as they take a good run of form into their F.A. Cup clash.
However, the same could be said when they made the trip to the Etihad Stadium in the League Cup back in September.
The Owls are currently on a run of 4 wins from 6 matches – just as they were going into the League Cup match. On that occasion a fine first half from Wednesday saw the two sides go in 0-0 at the break with the Owls in sight of an improbable result. However, the second resulted in the home side running in 7 goals without reply and the drubbing took the visitors some time to get over.
Stuart Gray's side then went 10 more games before racking up their next win as their fine start to the season began to feel like a distant memory.
Having now recovered to regain the form they showed in the early part of the season Wednesday need to be wary of not letting whatever happens on Sunday affect their league form. The Owls should be able to approach the game as a one-off and not worry should the result go against them in a bad way again as City are capable of scoring goals for fun against any level of opposition as they have shown in the Premier League in recent seasons.
Wednesday took a strong vocal support to Wigan on Tuesday evening on the back of taking over 4,000 fans to Fulham before Christmas and the Owls will be backed by more than 5,500 Wednesdayites in Manchester.
