Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a blow with the news that Ross Barkley has returned to parent club Everton. The Owls snapped up the young prospect in September on a month long deal which was renewed for a further 28 days.
However, Everton are set to be without midfielder Phil Neville for 2 months due to injury and fellow midfield options Darron Gibson and Kevin Miralles are also short of full fitness therefore they have opted to have Barkley return to Goodison Park.
Wednesday have struggled for results during Barkley’s spell at Hillsborough but the 18-year-old has shown plenty of glimpses of why he has been tipped for a long career in the top flight. His two goals at Ipswich set the Owls on their way to their first away win of the season at the end of October and the following week he scored the opening goal in the 2-1 home win over Peterborough.
Barkley made 12 starts and 1 substitute appearance for the Owls, scoring 4 goals.
