Owls lose influential attacker

Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt a major blow with the news that Michail Antonio will miss the remainder of the season. The former Reading winger picked up an injury in chasing down a ball towards the opposition goal in the home defeat to Cardiff on Saturday. At the first the injury looked rather innocuous as it did not occur as a result of a direct tackle but as the stretcher was called for it soon became apparent that the problem was a bad one.

The Owls are reporting that Antonio sustained a groin injury and will not play again this season. Wednesday's number 7, who celebrates his 23rd birthday later this month, has been the most productive player in the squad so far this season. He has made more appearances than any other player and is comfortably ahead in terms of goals scored and assists.

Antonio will clearly be missed during the crucial end of season run-in and it is now likely that Dave Jones will look to strengthen his squad in the loan market to try and cover this setback. The Owls were already considering adding to their squad following Connor Wickham's return to Sunderland last week.
