Wednesday Vs Leeds: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United on Friday evening in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Hillsborough as they aim to close the gap of the league leaders and continue a run of form that has seen them lose just one of their last six league games.

Jos Luhukay is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that won impressively at Villa Park last time out but he will welcome Fernando Forestieri back into the squad as the forward has now completed a 3-match suspension.

Young centre-back Jordan Thorniley has also recovered from a minor knock suffered in the recent defeat at Nottingham Forest and could return. Gary Hooper, Kieran Lee, Sam Hutchinson and Almen Abdi continue to be injury absentees.

Leeds are also without a number of prominent players due to injury including striker Kemar Roofe, midfielders Izzy Brown and Pablo Hernandez and full-back Gaetano Baradi. Forward Patrick Bamford faces a long spell on the sidelines.

The table toppers were beaten for the first time this season last weekend when Birmingham won at Elland Road and the Owls enjoyed two wins over their Yorkshire rivals last season, although Wednesday have not beaten Leeds in successive home games for over 50 years.

Leeds are the only side in the Championship not to have lost an away game yet this season while Wednesday have not lost at home in six league games.
