Various reports within the media have today linked Sheffield Wednesday with a move for Sunderland right-winger Carlos Edwards.
The Trinidad & Tobago international has failed to break into the first team at the Stadium of Light this season after an injury-hit first campaign in the Premier League and Black Cats boss Roy Keane has revealed he has held talks with the player about a possible loan move away from the club in order to secure first team football.
Despite this there has been nothing official from Wednesday that would confirm any interest in the player. In addition to this Jermaine Johnson has been on good form of late and with Wade Small returning to fitness Wednesday are not short of options in this area.
There is no doubt that former Luton man Edwards has the quality to stand out in the Championship and was a key player in Sunderland's promotion push after he signed for the club in January 2007.
As things stand though, the Owls are somewhat short of spare cash to splash around on loan players wages and even if some money was made available at the present time the fact that Wednesday have one of the worst defensive records in the division certainly suggests that the priorities lie in adding more steal to the side than flair.
