The on-loan stopper from Middlesbrough was given a straight-red card after bringing down David Healy in the incident which lead to Leeds' winning goal on Sunday.
Jones appeared to haul the Northern Ireland striker down outside the area and referee Steve Bennett pointed straight to the spot, sent the goalkeeper off and now he may receive an automatic one-match suspension if the appeal is unsuccessful.
Paul Sturrock told the club's official site: "We've appealed. After looking at the video I feel a double injustice was done to us. Not only was the incident outside the box, our keeper was sent off as well."
