Wednesday stopper influential in Northern Ireland win
Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s excellent start to the season continued on Thursday evening, on international duty with Northern Ireland.
The 24-year-old travelled to Lithuania with his national team for a World Cup qualifying fixture and he had a key role to play as the game progressed. Northern Ireland deservedly held a 1-0 lead at half-time and doubled their lead from the penalty spot shortly after the break.
It had been a fairly quiet evening for Peacock-Farrell, until he had to pick the ball out of the back of his net on 54 minutes when an unstoppable strike from Baravykas made it 2-1. Just after the hour mark Lithuania were awarded a penalty after a foul by McNair and they had the chance to level the game. Step forward Peacock-Farrell, who made a fine save from the penalty kick taken by Novikovas.
The save proved to be a crucial moment as the visitors regained control and went on to record a 4-1 victory.
Peacock-Farrell, on loan at Hillsborough from Premier League Burnley, has only conceded one goal in his first five league games for the Owls, who currently sit in second place in League One.
