Sheffield Wednesday have added Stoke City defender Lewis Buxton to their squad ahead of the Sheffield derby on Sunday.
Manager Brian Laws had already stated this week that he was searching the market to bring in a defender and the 24-year-old joins the Owls on loan for an initial one-month period.
His versatility is perhaps the main reason he has been brought in as he has experience of playing at both right and left-back as well as having the build to fill in at centre-half.
Wednesday are without the services of Tommy Spurr while Richard Wood, Peter Gilbert and Mark Beevers have all spent time on the sidelines of late and so the ability to provide cover in all defensive areas is a bonus.
Buxton played over 30 games in the Championship in the 2005/06 season but has only played a handful of games since then for the first team due to injuries and not being selected.
He has not featured for Stoke in the Premier League this season but has played in their two Carling Cup victories over Cheltenham and Reading, although Stoke did concede 4 goals in those two fixtures.
