The former Chelsea chief called the current board’s plans for the proposed sale of Middlewood as ‘pie in the sky’.
Bates believed that Dave Allen and the other Hillsborough directors were not telling the truth over the sale of the complex, but the Co-op bank has now confirmed the plans.
Bates originally said that he did not want to sell Middlewood as it is too good an asset to lose although Allen has had the plan for a number of years.
After a supermarket chain failed in their bid to secure the Middlewood site last year due to public objection, the other £10million plus bids are said to come from property companies.
If or when Wednesday does sell the land, they will have to pay a fee to Sheffield Council who leases part of it to The Owls.
