Wednesday’s next two games suspended
Sheffield Wednesday have today confirmed that their next two Championship fixtures have been suspended. The Owls were scheduled to take on Coventry City away on Saturday 16th January and Wycombe Wanderers at Hillsborough on Tuesday 19th January but these two games will now need to be rearranged.
The club have recently been hit with an outbreak of COVID-19 that has forced the closure of their Middlewood Road training ground. Wednesday were without key staff and players for the FA Cup clash at Exeter City last weekend and could only name four players on the bench with many inexperienced academy players included in the squad.
A statement released on the official club website, www.swfc.co.uk confirms that the Owls informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil these fixtures due to the COVID outbreak and subsequent adherence to the relevant EFL ad government guidance.
