Sheffield Wednesday denied Chesterfield a morale boosting scalp ahead of the start of the 2013/14 season by scoring a late equaliser in their pre-season friendly.
The home side took the lead in the first half against the run of play and it looked like that would be enough to earn them the win but Chris Maguire equalised for the visitors with just two minutes remaining.
Dave Jones chose to make full use of his squad with just one week to go before the start of the Championship season. The likes of Lewis Buxton, Reda Johnson, Michail Antonio and Jeremy Helan will all expect to be involved at QPR next week but they didn't get a run out in North Derbyshire.
New signing Atdhe Nuhiu was given his first start and went close to giving the Owls the lead in the early exchanges when he fired into the side netting.
The Owls looked comfortable in the fist half but were stunned just before the half hour mark when Gary Roberts crossed for Hamza Bencherif to head the hosts into the lead.
Wednesday failed to respond before half-time but went close through Jermaine Johnson and Paul Corry in the early exchanges of the second period. Just when it looked like Chesterfield would leave with the spoils Maguire struck from 20 yards to give Wednesday a draw and hand Dave Jones a reminder of what he is capable of ahead of the new season.
