Bolton beaten at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday put an end to their poor run of 1 point from 6 games with a 1-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.
Both sides came into the game in dire form with Bolton having lost 6 of their last 8 matches and the lack of confidence was clear to see throughout a first half bereft of goalmouth incident. Ameobi produced the only shot on target of the first 45 minutes but Dawson was equal to his long range strike and held on well.
Forestieri was introduced at half-time to give Wednesday some much needed impetus and the change finally sparked some life into the home side. Reach lobbed just wide from the edge of the box early in the 2nd half and the Owls were rewarded for their increased intent just before the hour mark when Tom Lees glanced a header in at the near post from Bannan's corner.
Bolton failed to threaten an equaliser and the only real chance of note came when Matias squandered position in his own half only for substitute Clayton Donaldson to spoon his effort off target.
The Owls fragile defence held on fairly comfortably and could have increased their advantage late on with Joao blazing high and wide and Forestieri failing to take advantage of a good attack.
The game won't live long in the memory of those who braved the adverse weather conditions but Wednesday managed to come away with the 3 points which was all that really mattered given the run they have been on. Next up for the Owls is a trip to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
