Sheffield Wednesday got their pre-season schedule off to a steady if unspectacular start with a 2-0 victory over HFC Haarlem in the Netherlands, giving a healthy Owls following some summer cheer.
Second half goals came from last seasons' top scorer Deon Burton, who was set up by Marcus Tudgay and then Tudgay himself, on his return to fitness, got on the score sheet following good work from Wade Small.
19 of Wednesday's squad got a run out in the game with Richard Hinds playing 90 minutes on his return following injury, as did Mark Beevers and Liam McMenamin.
New boy Jimmy Smith started the fixture but it may be of concern that he had to be replaced by fellow new midfield signing James O'Connor before half-time after picking up a knock in the game that was played on an artificial surface.
