Owls defensive display sets up 2nd leg decider

Sheffield Wednesday produced a solid if uninspiring performance in the first-leg of the Championship play-off semi-final to earn a draw at Huddersfield Town.

The home side dictated large spells of the game but Wednesday’s disciplined display gave the Terriers few clear-cut chances with Keiren Westwood not having to do too much to keep Town at to earn a 0-0 draw.

The best chances of the first half fell to Terriers midfielder Izzy Brown following a rare howler by Glenn Loovens but the Chelsea loan player could only clip the top of the bar with his snap-shot.

The 2nd-half saw Huddersfield call Westwood into action twice with the Ireland goalkeeper making smart saves to deny Wells twice, first from a cute chip from the edge of the penalty areas and then from a close-range snap-shot following a fortunate ricochet.

The Owls were reduced to long-range efforts with Reach and Bannan firing narrowly off target from distance and the result leaves all to play for in the 2nd-leg at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening.
