Sheffield Wednesday has announced via the clubs official website, www.swfc.co.uk that the forthcoming Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round tie against Chesterfield will be broadcast live by Sky Sports.
The match will take place on Wednesday October 6th with a slightly earlier than usual kick-off time for a midweek match of 7.15pm.
The Owls 1st round home victory over Notts County attracted a crowd of over 10,000, much higher than average gates for the early stages of the Football League Trophy and Wednesday will be hoping to get another creditable attendance despite the lure of the television. In order to encourage supporters to attend the game the club have continued the price policy adopted in the 1st round with tickets bought in advance of the day of the match available for £5 adults and just £2.50 for concessions.
The meeting of the two teams throws up some interesting links to say the least with former Owls chairman Dave Allen now a director at Chesterfield who are managed by Wednesday legend John Sheridan. The former Owls midfielder is likely to field forward Drew Talbot in his side who scored the final goal in Wednesday’s memorable 4-2 play-off final victory over Hartlepool in 2005.
