Sheffield Wednesday have made a significant move on transfer deadline day by signing winger Royston Drenthe on loan from Championship rivals Reading.
Stuart Gray had spoken of the need to add to Wednesday's options in wide areas and Drenthe certainly fits the bill. The Dutchman came through the ranks at his local club Feyenoord and after impressing in two seasons in their first team he secured a move to European giants Real Madrid in 2007.
After an initially positive start in Madrid he lost his way and fell out of favour. In 2010-11 he spent a season on loan at La Liga side Hercules and the following season he was loaned out to Everton.
Drenthe's Madrid contract came to an end in 2012 and after a season in Russian football he signed for Reading last summer.
He joins the Owls from the Royals on a loan and will stay at Hillsborough until January 2nd 2015.
Drenthe's attitude and application have been called into question at times during his career bu if Stuart Gray can get the best out of him then there is no doubting his ability.
