Sheffield Wednesday added another option to their defensive set up on Tuesday when they completed the signing of Slovenian defender David Kasnik. The 24-year-old has moved to Hillsborough from Olimpija Ljubljana on a loan deal that will initially run until January 2012.
Kasnik has been with Ljubljana since 2008, making almost 50 appearances for the club and helping them earn promotion to the top flight in Slovenia in 2009 where they have remained since. He is 6ft 1in tall and his preferred position is centre-back though he has also been utilised as a left-back.
With the transfer window set to close on Wednesday night the fact that Gary Megson has moved to sign a defender may come as something of a surprise to Owls fans given that the acquisition of a striker appears to be the priority. There have been rumours recently linking some of Wednesday’s defenders such as Mark Beevers and Mark Reynolds with moves away from the club and this signing could trigger further developments.
