The 1991 Cup Final victory over Manchester United was undoubtedly one of the Owls greatest post-war achievements and this was recognised by fans who voted Wednesday’s win as the 9th best League Cup moment of all time.
Ron Atkinson’s side went into the game as big underdogs but John Sheridan’s sweetly struck shot provided the only goal of the game to give the second division side a surprise but fully deserved triumph. Wednesday went on to cap a fine season by securing promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt.
