It has been a season to remember for Sheffield Wednesday and Jose Semedo has played a key role in Wednesday’s successful promotion campaign. The Portuguese midfielder’s efforts have been recognised by supporters as he has been voted the PFA fans League One player of the year for 2011/12.

The award, voted for by fans via the PFA’s digital media partner, Digital Sports Group (DSG) at their website, http://www.footymad.net/partners/pfa saw Semedo top challengers such as Huddersfield hot shot Jordan Rhodes and new Owls team mate Kieran Lee, who excelled for Oldham last season, to win the accolade.

Semedo moved to Hillsborough last season on a free-transfer after leaving Charlton, for whom he had received player of the year awards the previous season. His combative, no nonsense style proved to be just what the Owls needed in the centre of midfield and he instantly became a fans favourite. Semedo was an ever present in the league last season, helping Wednesday accumulate 93 points to finish as runners up in the division.
