Sheffield Wednesday have today announced on their official website that they have reached an agreement with local authorities that has brought an end to the photo ID system on season tickets.
The scheme, which was introduced last season, meant that all fans purchasing a season ticket had to produce two passport style photographs for identification, one to be placed in the season ticket and one for the club's records. The scheme has now been made null and void with immediate effect with the exception of concession season ticket applications.
Most fans will see this as good news as the policy had received criticism in some quarters due to the fact that it monitored the loyal fans purchasing season tickets but there was no such scheme regarding those purchasing match-day tickets.
From a personal view point the scheme did not work at all as last season a group of four people with whom I have season tickets with must have had their ID photo's checked less than a handful of times between them when entering the ground throughout the course of the season.
For all of those that have already purchased season tickets for the forthcoming season and thus purchased and sent in photo's, the club have made a good will gesture, offering these supporters a free ticket for the home friendly against Wigan on August 2nd - a saving of £5.
