The Irish midfielder, in his second month at the club following a loan switch from Bolton, was thrown in at the deep end against Hull City in December and made an instant impact by scoring.
Another goal against Swindon and many battling performances since and O’Brien has become a vital member of the team recently and it is no wonder why Trotters boss Sam Allardyce rates him so highly.
He told Footymad: “You want to play in the big occasions and here at Wednesday the supporters are unbelievable so it has been absolutely brilliant for me so far. Playing big occasions instead of reserve team football is a lot better for me and playing in front of big crowds is miles better than a few for Bolton’s reserves.
“I have done ok personally. I wasn’t happy with my performance at Bournemouth but overall I have done alright. There hasn’t been any talk of a permanent move as of yet but I still have two and a half years left on my contract at Bolton so it is all down to the clubs involved, whether Sheffield Wednesday want me or Bolton want to let me go.”
