Nothing to report at Hillsborough as window closes

No transfer news from S6 on deadline day

The summer transfer market window closed quietly for Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday as no moves took place at Hillsborough.

Following a week where it was reported that the Owls were under some form of 'soft transfer embargo', any new additions were highly unlikely even though the club is thought to be in discussions with a view to lifting the embargo. Should this happen in the coming days there could still be room for Wednesday to make a move or two in the loan market, which will remain open until the end of August.

Perhaps more surprising was the fact that there were no further departures from the Wednesday squad. With the Owls under pressure financially many of their key players had been linked with moves away but owner Dejphon Chansiri believes that the club still have enough quality to compete at the right end of the table this season and hanging onto influential players like Forestieri and Bannan is key to that.

In a bid to ease the financial burden this summer has seen big wage-earners Glenn Loovens & Ross Wallace leave the club following the expiry of their contracts, Jack Hunt has been sold to Bristol City for a fee in the region of £1.6M and record signing Jordan Rhodes will spend the season on loan at Norwich City.
