No funtime for Frankie

The Owls right-back was not even on the bench for the game where Brazil came out 4-2 winners after an early scare from a plucky-looking US side.

Fulham's Carlos Bocanegra opened the scoring for the home side on 21 minutes before former Newcastle defender Oguchi Onyewu put through his own net 12 minutes later.

The 2002 World Cup winners went ahead thanks to a Lucio header just after the half time break although another Fulham star, Clint Dempsey, made it 2-2 before Ronaldinho and a last-gasp penalty from Manchester City's Elano made sure Brazil left Chicago with the spoils.

Simek will now hope to be involved when the USA takes on a select Catalan XI in Barcelona on October 14 - a select team who represents the Spanish region of Catalonia although this game may not be sanctioned by FIFA because of the other internationals that weekend.

If that game does not go ahead, Simek may only have to wait a few more days when the US travel to Geneva to take on Switzerland on October 17.

In other news, Wednesday have today been linked with a loan move for Wigan's Fitz Hall although The Owls will have to fend off competition from Coventry and Norwich in a bid to sign the highly-rated defender.
