New boss gets tough

The former Plymouth boss was appointed yesterday and his strict regime may not appease players but supporters are certainly set to be impressed.

He is going for promotion, simple as that and he must have been impressed with the spirit shown at Coventry on Wednesday night.

Sturrock said: "The players will be given a month to impress, in training every day, in reserve matches and first-team games. That will determine the ones who are here and the ones who won't be."

You cannot really class his style as dictatorial but he will want effort from the players he has adopted from Chris Turner and believes supporters should get value for money.

He continued: "The players will have to appreciate that work-rate and attitude is the minimum that a fan should get for paying his money.

"We will do double training sessions; we will break the squad up and train different parts of the team separately.

"I wouldn't say I was a 'disciplinarian', but if a player breaks rules they should be fined."

Sturrock will take charge of his first game tomorrow at Wrexham but he will not be able to select Glenn Whelan because he starts his three match suspension following his sending off at Highfield Road.
