Mixed opinions over Turner

Many supporters believe that he is not the man for the job and will not take the club forward while others think that he should be given more time to prove what he can do.

Footymad caught up with a few fans yesterday to get the full verdict on whether Turner should stay or go.

Chris Rowland from High Green says that enough is enough. “I am fed up of his constant excuses,” he said, “they are just not good enough, and he can’t motivate the players he brought into the club, and now it is going to be hard to gel a totally new team in the summer.”

James Gates from Norton agrees, he says: “He just can’t get the players up for games and there is no passion out there apart from a few players, he doesn’t change things around and just stands there with his arms crossed. The defence has been abysmal and there’s no fight.”

Michael Cleland from Parson Cross was upset that some popular players were released. He says: “How can he let Quinn and Del go? They were the only two who cared about the club, I can’t wait for Bates to come in and sack him.”

But while there are the obvious objectors, some stick up for the boss and think that he is doing all he can.

Danny Slater from Richmond believes Turner should be given more time so he can turn the club around, he says: “Some of the players he has brought into the team like Brunt, Shaw and McMahon have shown real promise; we have to give him time to mould the team into promotion candidates.”

Danny’s brother, Mark agrees, he said: “He has proven he can turn a club around, what he did at Hartlepool was fantastic but he had time there. I know that resources have been thin but he is bringing in some quality players in the summer, so we believe, and I can see him turning it around.”

Last but not least is Frank Stone from Dronfield, who has followed the club since the fifties and can not remember the club being in such a dire position.

He said: “We have gone through managers like they are going out of fashion in the last 25 years, we need a bit of stability as it is a horrible time for the club and if we get rid of Turner now, then it may take years to get promoted again.”
