The Algerian international has been a stand-out performer at S6 this season and won the club's player of the month award voted for by fans.
So far, the former Crewe defender has been a real find by Paul Sturrock and worth the money - although the defender knows that there's much more to come.
He told Footymad: "I have settled in well. Match after match I think I am getting better. I like Sheffield Wednesday and the fans. I think we have played well this season but I think I can get better.
"It's very good winning player of the month because it is nice to come to a new club and make a good impression. I want to play as long as I can for this club and hopefully get us in the Premiership."
Bougherra has settled into life at the club well although he has been disappointed with some results, the victory at the weekend has given The Owls some much-needed confidence.
He added: "It wasn't pretty but three points is three points. It has been a long time since we won so it's about time. We have been very competitive so far this season without picking up points but against Barnsley we didn't panic and got the winner right at the end.
"We had to win that game though: the team has been very motivated going into it and concentrated on it. We have some very good players here and I think that we can do a lot more. I don't think we deserved to be bottom of the table in the last few weeks. We now have 35 games left in the season so that gives us lots of chances to win many more games."
