The Scottish striker missed two thirds of the campaign last season following a horror leg break in pre-season and only really found his feet in the Championship this season.
MacLean notched his 12th of the season against Ipswich on Monday and admits that his turn of luck has been a massive positive.
"It's brilliant for me," he told Footymad when asked about his season so far. "My aim in the summer was to be fit and play as many games as I can and score as many goals as possible so I just want to carry on doing it, and can keep doing it here for Wednesday.
"I am pleased with my form. I try to work as hard as I can so hopefully the goals will come with it, and if I get a few assists along the way then it helps."
MacLean has shown frustrations this season - most notably in the game against Southend last month when he made a gesture towards the bench following his injury-time winner - but acknowledges that sometimes Brian Laws will use other players in the forward positions.
"Yeah definitely," he admitted. "We have got some really good players at the moment and we have lots of options, I am sure that the manager will use them all between now and the end of the season and use them to his discretion because it's all good for Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the day."
It is no secret the former Rangers man is out of contract in the summer but he believes it would be hard to leave Hillsborough and is currently doing everything in his power to stay - despite no official deal on the table as of yet.
"Not really much talks yet about a contract but we'll see what happens and hopefully something will come up soon. The supporters here are a big thing for me and I try and give them my best. The supporters are brilliant with me so hopefully I can repay them with goals and hopefully get a new contract here as well."
