The former Rangers striker has been out with a knee injury and started back in full training today but has told the Wednesday manager he is ready.
Sturrock told the club's official site: "He's chomping at the bit. He's told me he gets breakages or nothing - he probably doesn't run quick enough to get strains!
"I wouldn't worry about him as he's had a pre-season."
Drew Talbot and Barry Corr will be eased back into action despite starting training again yesterday.
Meanwhile, Wednesday legend Nigel Pearson takes charge of his first West Bromwich Albion game tonight as they host Cheltenham in the Carling Cup.
Pearson, the skipper when The Owls lifted the 1991 league cup, takes temporary charge at the Hawthorns after Bryan Robson left yesterday.
