Sheffield Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery's career at Hillsborough has come to an end after he turned down the offer of a new contract.
Following the expiry of the Canadian-born Northern Irish strikers last deal this summer the Owls offered him a new contract but it seems this offer has been declined.
It will not come as any surprise to Owls followers that the 23-year-old looks set to pursue his career away from S6 as his chances have been limited since the arrival of coach Carlos Carvalhal. Lavery only made 2 first-team starts for Wednesday last season and with the arrival Steven Fletcher and more attacking players expected to join the ranks at Hillsborough the chances of Lavery featuring for the Owls in 2016/17 would have surely been even more restricted.
Lavery began to make his mark in the second half of the 2013/14 season but a knee injury picked up in the summer meant that he hardly featured in 2014/15. He spent a fair proportion of last season on loan at Portsmouth and due to the fact he is under 24 and was offered a new contract, Wednesday will be entitled to a fee from any club that he does sign for even though technically he is now out of contract.
