Sheffield Wednesday have today announced the departure of Glenn Roeder. The former Newcastle boss joined the club to form a 3-man sporting director committee alongside then-manager Stuart Gray and Adam Pearson.

Gray was relieved of his duties as manager in the summer and Pearson left to take up a position at Leeds United at the start of the season – a position he has since vacated.

In a statement released today Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri revealed that he had enjoyed working with Roeder but he will continue to make difficult decisions for the benefit of the club. He went on to say that periodical changes in personnel within the committee are to be expected as it evolves and he hopes to build on recent successes in the January transfer window.

The Owls have made multiple additions to their playing squad since the end of last season and they have a much greater level of ability and depth than they have done for many a year. Significant improvements have also been made to the matchday experience at Hillsborough.

However, the club have also been criticised in many quarters for steep rises in ticket prices with tickets for Owls home games among the most expensive in the football league and as a result, despite much improved home performances, attendances have not increased as would be expected given the teams form at S6.
