Jones disappointed with draw - exclusive

The Owls drew for the second time this season leaving them with two points from a possible nine but despite no wins on the board, performances so far have been encouraging.

Steve MacLean's penalty put Wednesday ahead but James O'Connor's late equaliser gave The Clarets a share of the spoils despite the injury-ravaged Owls putting in another solid showing.

Jones told Footymad: “I thought we should have got a bit more out of it but overall we did ok and played alright. Our start has been good because in the first game we did quite well to get the draw there, the second game was an unfortunate defeat when the third game we got another draw but we should have got all three points.

“When I was at Middlesbrough the injury situation was not too dissimilar to the one we have here but that happens pre-season and you just have to try to get past that rough patch and get everyone back playing. The players who have come into the side may not have been here at the start of the season but they have all played up to standard and that just shows how good the squad is even though some of the major players are out at the moment.

“A win any time would be welcome but it's not going to be easy travelling all the way down to Plymouth but we will keep plugging away and as long as we do that we will be ok. I don't think anyone can fault the effort we have put in so far so if we keep grafting away I am sure the wins will start flowing.”

Jones, arguably at fault partly for O'Connor's goal, has so far fitted in well at Hillsborough and thanks the players around him for making the transition from Middlesbrough to Hillsborough seem all that bit easier.

He added: “I have settled in well, it's been good. Everybody's welcomed me here and I get along well with all the boys so it's been pretty easy for me and we are doing well together. Knowing that you are coming in a few days before the season can be quite hard but that's only if the people around the club are difficult to work with and that's not the case here. Like I said, everyone's welcomed me into the club and that's good because I feel at home straight away and that's great.”
