Sheffield Wednesday's longest current serving player Jermaine Johnson will leave the club this summer as his contract has come to an end and he will not be offered a new deal.
The popular Jamaican revealed the news via his twitter account today and the club have since confirmed this on their official website.
Signed from Bradford City in 2007, JJ went on to make an impressive 250 appearances for the Owls, scoring 30 goals.
His blistering pace was a real asset and although at times it wasn't clear whether he knew what he was going to do next, never mind the opposition having any idea, he was often capable of getting the Wednesday faithful on their feet with his direct, incisive runs.
His time at Hillsborough was often blighted by injury on inconsistency but his ability to create something out of nothing, often when least expected made him a hit with the fans and he was rarely short of time when asked to interact with the clubs followers.
When Wednesday returned to the Championship in the 2012/13 season he was able to prove he still had the ability to play at that level, scoring 7 goals, most of them belters, as the Owls went on to retain their place in the second tier.
This past season has been more of a struggle for JJ as he managed only a handful of starts and failed to have the same impact as was previously the case when coming off the bench and as a result the club have taken the decision not to offer him a new contract. Despite this there are still plenty of good memories of JJ for Owls fans to look back on and owls-mad wish him all the best for the future.
