The 0-0 draw against Bristol City extended the Owls unbeaten run to five games in the Coca Cola Championship and they sit in tenth place, just four points off the play-offs.
Despite this form you would be hard pushed to find any Wednesday fan that would say that they have played consistently well throughout any game in this run and even with the team performing above many peoples pre-season expectations the fans are hardly flooding back to Hillsborough.
Some sections of the crowd booed t the final whistle on Saturday which was harsh as there was no lack of effort or endeavour it's just that recent matches simply have not served up much sustained excitement.
Barring the Norwich match the last six home games have been short on thrills and even in that game the first half performance was dire.
In fact it would be difficult to argue that Wednesday have managed to produce over 45 minutes of sustained good football in any one match since the Sheffield derby.
The total blame for this however can not be labelled at the home side and it may be symptomatic of the Championship in general.
Other than Wolves, Reading and perhaps Burnley, of whom the former have at times been scoring for fun, their seems to be a general lack of excitement in the division, even high flying Birmingham haven't performed fluently and their fans have been critical of their displays.
With so many teams split by so few points the Championship is certainly a very competitive division and most sides will have something meaningful to play for as the season reaches its climax.
At the moment though this seems to be making for a slightly cautious approach from many teams who set themselves up not to lose rather than to go all out for victory and generally this is not offering up an exciting spectacle for supporters.
Generally attendances at Hillsborough have been down anyway this season due to factors such as price rises and the credit crunch but it has recently been reported that despite the Owls best home form to date for many a year, even some season ticket holders are staying away.
