Laws, formally manager of The Iron for ten years, moved to Hillsborough a year ago and was replaced by the club physio Adkins, who in turn got Scunthorpe promoted to the Championship after securing the League One crown last season.
But the club's first-ever league victory at S6 thanks to two goals from Martin Patterson, who put Scunthorpe 2-1 up following Deon Burton's penalty, will no doubt pile further more pressure on Laws.
Adkins said: "The League is very close. Sheffield Wednesday won't get relegated. They have a good manager. Brian Laws was great for Scunthorpe. I was in the dug-out with him for 10 years. We have shared the low times. People need to support him and be around him.
"We nearly faced the abyss of the Conference; I was there shoulder to shoulder with him. If the right person is in place, you stick with him. Brian Laws should stay the manager of Sheffield Wednesday. He's a good man. That's why he got the job in the first place."
Laws did not appear in the post-match press conference, which started rumours that he was in the board room for an emergency meeting with chop-happy chairman Dave Allen.
Wednesday's problems also pile up on the pitch after Richard Wood, who has not enjoyed the best of seasons as it is, was taken off before half time with a dislocated shoulder while goalscorer Burton remained in the dressing room at the break with concussion.
Graham Kavanagh has also been recalled by Sunderland despite being due to play against Blackpool on Saturday in his last game.
