Injury problems mount to compound defeat

As if a last minute defeat to a Neil Warnock side isn't hard enough to stomach, the Owls woes were further compounded in the defeat at Selhurst Park by an injury to American international Frank Simek.

Having been heavily involved in the build-up to Wednesday's goal, the right-back went down unchallenged having seemingly caught his studs in the turf just before the half-hour mark.

Simek's knee appeared to buckle underneath him and his ankle twisted sharply as a result. The normally robust defender was clearly in pain as fans saw him writhing in agony and unable to continue.

Experienced club captain Lee Bullen replaced Simek, who was subsequently stretchered off and Bullen could well be in line for an extended run in the team if the severity of the injury to Simek is confirmed to be as bad as it initially appeared.
