Sheffield Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers has again seemingly been struck down with yet anther injury. The forward would have been out to try and impress Alan Irvine and the new Owls coaching staff in this afternoons reserve fixture at Stocksbridge but this was yet another missed opportunity.
The striker, who has been much criticised by Owls fans for generally failing to get anywhere close to expectations during his time at Hillsborough limped out of the clash with WBA’s second string after barely ten minutes of the contest.
His extent of his injury is set to be assessed in full on Wednesday and this could come as a major blow to the Owls. Although not a regular starter Jeffers would have been in contention for a place on the bench in forthcoming games due in no small part to the departure of Akpo Sodje to Charlton and the loss through injury of Jermaine Johnson who is not expected to make a return for around a month.
That leaves Wednesday with just three experienced strikers in Luke Varney, Marcus Tudgay and Leon Clarke and they can do nothing about it at the moment with the transfer window closed until it reopens for emergency loan deals next week.
The Owls second string were beaten 1-0 by WBA in wintery conditions at Stocksbridge and although there were run outs for the likes of Richard Hinds, Etienne Esajas and Sean McAllister none have really shown enough to expect to force their way into Alan Irvine’s in form 1st team.
