Individual end-of-season reports: Tommy Spurr

Last updated : 16 May 2009 By C. Morris

Last season young Tommy Spurr held down the left back position as he grew in confidence, learning from his mistakes and beginning to develop into an accomplished player.

This season has seen the academy graduate pick up where he left off and he has backed up his effort and enthusiasm with consistently good performances.

Having initially developed as a centre-half there were spells during 2007/08 where he looked somewhat nervous at full-back but with time and experience he has grown into the role and is developing into a fine player.

In addition to his defensive abilities Spurr is more than capable of supporting his left-sided midfielder and rarely passes up the opportunity to do so.

Spurr scored a vital goal to rescue a point against Plymouth last season and chipped in with two more in this campaign, including the opening goal in the memorable win at Bramall Lane.

Spurr played in all but 5 of the Owls league games in 2008/09 and like Grant has to be regarded as a key member of the side if Wednesday are to move forward and his attitude has seen him become a favourite amongst the fans.

Overall verdict: 8/10.
