Saints have just one league victory in their last 12 and have not won at home yet under the stewardship of George Burley although they seem to have just as many injury worries as The Owls at the moment.

Richard Wood, Steve Adams, Drissa Diallo, Craig Rocastle, David Lucas, Drew Talbot and JP McGovern are all long-time absentees from the Wednesday line-up while Deon Burton and Peter Gilbert are both to have fitness tests before the game.

Loan stars Yoann Folly and Leon Best are both ineligible to take on Southampton because they are still contracted to the south-coast club but Paul Sturrock is hoping that Barry Corr and John Hills are fit enough to play some part.

Tudgay told Footymad: “Southampton have been struggling but we have to concentrate on ourselves: they haven’t won too many at home and we have to take that to our advantage and try and get a win.

In attack Wednesday currently can call upon the services of Tudgay, Corr and Steve MacLean at the present time but with Best returning soon – the former Derby man is adamant that The Owls will be ok this season.

He added: “We’re not looking over our shoulders yet because we have just got to keep playing football. We have a lot of strikers here at the moment – we are all young and want to score goals but it’s good because the competition is there but whoever gets the goals and the team gets wins, we’re happy.”
