Hirsty at the double for England

Sheffield Wednesday's young prospect George Hirst was on fine form tonight, scoring both goals as England Under 18's beat Poland 2-0 at Stevenage.

George, son of Owls legend David, wasted no time in making his mark, sliding in to score from close range inside the first 10 minutes.

Hirst and England doubled their tally early on in the 2nd half. The 17-year-old was brought down inside the penalty area and picked himself up to make no mistake from the spot.

A fine night for Hirst was almost capped with a hat-trick late on but he saw his strike hit the post. Nonetheless, the Sheffield lad, who made his Owls debut at Cambridge in the League Cup in August, can be delighted with his nights work.

His progress and performances at this level will doubtless lead to a clamour for him to be involved with the Owls first team in the near future and it is only a matter of time before he is involved in senior football on a more regular basis be it with Wednesday or possibly out on loan to gain experience.
