Sheffield Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje has extended his stay at league one promotion chasers Charlton Athletic for another month.
The tall striker initially joined the Londoners on a 28-day deal which expired following last weekends fixtures but the clubs have now agreed an extension which will see him remain with the Addicks until 9th January.
Sodje has intimated recently that he would be open to considering a permanent move to Charlton. He grew up in that area, his brother Sam plays for them and with his current Hillsborough contract coming to an end in the summer he is entitled to weigh up his options for the future.
The fact that the Owls have agreed to the loan extension may come as a surprise and disappointment to some fans. Sodje was allowed to go out on loan with a view to getting some games under his belt and improving his match sharpness and form.
Although he hasn’t perhaps had the amount of playing time that he would have liked he has certainly found some form and confidence having bagged 2 goals in four brief appearances and has immediately won the backing of the Charlton faithful.
Wednesday meanwhile have failed to score in four successive matches since Sodje left and with the strikers looking low on confidence his return could have given the side a type of option in attack that they do not currently possess.
