The on-loan goalkeeper was eligible for the Colchester away game after arriving the day before but Sturrock stuck with Chris Adamson in goal at Layer Road because he had worked hard in training and helped Wednesday win against Blackpool the previous week.
But The Owls have not tasted victory since that day and David Lucas' replacement knows that wins are desperately needed, although he is just glad to be playing again.
He told Footymad: "Professional footballers just want to play games and things are working out for me so far. Paul has shown great faith in me to bring me here though and I thank him for that - I think I have done reasonably well."
Now it is all about bouncing back for the Scotland international and with a massive game coming up at the weekend, the former Dundee United star wants to put the gut-wrenching memory of the Hartlepool game behind them.
He added: "It wasn't the best conditions to play in obviously but at the end of the day you have to realise that both teams are playing against the elements and unfortunately we ended up on the end of a 3-0 result and despite Hartlepool playing well, we are very disappointed for our fans.
"The result against Hartlepool was not ideal and the play-offs are obviously our objective and we have to focus everything on the remaining games so we can achieve that.
"We have to work hard in training and bounce back against Stockport - we have to pass the ball a lot better than we did against Hartlepool and hopefully we will be too strong for them."
