Owls injury crisis continues to get worse

Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt further blows on the injury front this week as the number of first team players unavailable continues to be in double figures.

The club have confirmed that Scotland striker Steven Fletcher is not expected to feature again during the 2017-18 season. The former Sunderland and Wolves forward has been troubled by a knee injury and has not played since mid-December.

Centre-back Joost Van Aken has suffered a setback to his rehabilitation in training and is now thought to be around 3 weeks away from a return. Forward Marco Matias had his red-card from last Saturday overturned but has since suffered an injury in training and is now not expected to play again until some time in March.

The injury curse has even stretched as far as affecting players that the Owls have out on loan now as striker Sam Winnall, who has been on a season-long loan at promotion chasing Derby County, has suffered knee ligament damage and is out for the remainder of the season.
