Sheffield Wednesday made a statement on Thursday to confirm the departure of Chris Lines. The central midfielder joined the Owls in 2011 and still had another year to run on his contract but this has now been cancelled by mutual consent and he is free to find another club.
The former Bristol Rovers midfielder played a key role in the 2011/12 promotion season but picked up an injury prior to the start of the 2012/13 campaign which set him back. Lines struggled to hold down a place in the Wednesday team in the Championship and spent a spell on loan in League One at MK Dons, making 18 appearances for them in the 2nd half of last season.
Wednesday currently have Giles Coke, David Prutton, Rhys McCabe, Paul Corry and Jose Semedo available in central midfield and so it is not really a surprise to see Lines depart.
Lines played 53 games for Wednesday, scoring 4 goals.
