Goals from Deon Burton and Burton O'Brien gave The Owls a great 2-0 victory and just rewards for their recent performances.
Preston pressured Paul Sturrock's men in the first half hour of the game but Wednesday were strong and went from strength to strength after Burton's second goal in two games.
"It was a great result but it wasn't easy," Tudgay admitted. "Preston are a good passing side and they make it hard for you by closing you down quickly but credit to our boys who have done well in the past two weeks and we got what we deserved by getting the three points.
"Our good performances of late goes back to the Cardiff game where we passed the ball well and got some good crosses in – their keeper was man of the match there. Against QPR, the boys took it on from the Cardiff game because we all battled hard and we all wanted it for each other. Against Preston thought it was quite a scrappy game and to be honest we got the result and that's all we care about."
Brunt meanwhile was pleased that The Owls finally took advantage of a slip up from the teams below them in the table.
He added: "Yeah what a result - it was a massive three points because Millwall also lost but I think that result has been coming in the last few weeks, we rode our luck in the first half hour but we deserved to get the win.
"We were on edge for the first 30 minutes for sure but our second-half performance was brilliant and in the end, the team worked hard and we got the two goals that we deserved.
"At the end of the day if we played rubbish against QPR the other week and got the three points then we would have been delighted – if we played rubbish again against Preston and got another win I don't think anyone would really care!"
